Papers are invited from all areas of public health informatics, including but not limited to health promotion and disease prevention applications, surveillance systems, health information exchanges and electronic medical/health records, personal and population health records, m-health applications in public health, analytics or predictive models, cloud-based computing, etc. Review papers, working papers, technology and book reviews, will also be considered for publication. Readers and authors may recall that OJPHI has charged no fees since the first issue was released in November, 2009. Journal management and publication costs have been covered by the University of Illinois Health Sciences Library and the Public Health Informatics program of the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago. After the papers have been reviewed and accepted, the costs of converting the papers to the format compatible for PubMed indexing has also been covered by the school of public health at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In this tight budgetary era, it will not be feasible for us to continue with this business model. We have decided to begin charging $200.00 per accepted article. That is, if a paper is rejected the authors do not have to pay any fees. Of course, articles from authors who demonstrate an inability to pay this modest fee will also be published. We will start collecting this fee from the OJPHI Volume 6, Number 1 (2014), which will be published on April 28th, 2014. |
